Shori

This is the design for a new product, a Buddhist altar called as Shori, for Okoshi Butsudan. We were asked to use the Buddhist symbol of "two fish" as a motif in the design. So we started designing based on the story of a carp climbing a waterfall, becoming a dragon, and then being called to heaven and becoming a Buddha to watch over the people. We expressed "a carp climbing a waterfall" and "light from heaven" using lines and silver leaf. Designing a Buddhist altar, a small architectural space for Buddha in Takaoka, a city famous for Buddhist altar implements, was a meaningful job for us as architects based in the city.
