Serpent Lady 蛇の淑女
This land art project was created in Toga, Nanto City, Toyama, Japan. The site was once a riverbed—an empty ground between mountain and water. By introducing a strong geometric intervention into this landscape without artificial structures, the project establishes a new order from which the surrounding environment can gradually evolve into a landscape. The act of excavating the ground and descending into the earth intensifies the awareness of the land itself. The work becomes a dialogue with the earth as a primordial source that gives life, sustains it, and ultimately receives it back. The geometry embodies the figure of the serpent—an ancient symbol of life and death—revealing the latent energy of the ground. Wear the serpent’s skirt. Swim through the earth. Hold the mountain. Here in Toga, many forms of life coexist with people, living together with the land.
富山県南砺市利賀村に制作したランドアートプロジェクトである。 敷地はかつて川であった埋め立て地で、山と川のあいだに広がる何もない空地でした。 人工物の存在しないこの場所に力強い幾何学を配置することで、新たな秩序を生み出し、そこから周囲の環境がランドスケープとして展開していくことを意図しています。 地面を掘り、穴へと降りていく体験は、大地の存在を強く意識させ、日常の中に非日常をつくります。この作品は、生命を生み、育み、支え、そして還す場所としての「母なる大地」との対話であり、生と死の象徴である蛇のイメージを幾何学に宿し、大地に潜在するエネルギーを可視化しました。 蛇のスカートを履きましょう。 大地を泳ぎましょう。 山を掴みましょう。 ここ利賀では、多くの生命が人と共生し、大地とともに生きている。
